Autumn Term Diary Dates
Home Learning
Home learning is sent home each week. The task that is set matches the learning that has taken place in class during the week. This ensures that all children are accessing activities that are supported with additional practice.
The key areas and expectations of home learning are:
Reading Books – Children are expected to take their reading book and record home each night and return to school each day with this. Children are expected to read at least 3 times a week at home to support them in their reading progression. Their reading record should be signed to show they have read with an adult. Children will also read with an adult in school.
Your child’s reading book will match their reading ability and is always checked by staff to ensure a level of challenge is set. An additional ‘free choice book’ matched to your child’s ability will also be sent each week. Please focus on reading the phonics book at home.
Spellings – Children are expected to complete a set of 5 spellings per week. Spellings are personalised for each child and they need to be able to read and write each word. These spellings are either Year 1 or Year 2 High Frequency words which are words that are frequently used in writing and reading books but that cannot always be sounded out. Alternatively, later in the year your child may receive some polysyllabic words directly linked with Sounds Write – meaning that children have teaching input with the spellings before they are sent home. Children then complete their individual Spelling Quiz on a Friday.
