British Values & SMSC

At Middlestone Moor Primary Academy, we are committed to promoting the fundamental British values of:

  • Democracy
  • The Rule of Law
  • Individual Liberty
  • Mutual Respect
  • Tolerance of those of Different Faiths and Beliefs

These values are woven into every aspect of school life, inspiring our children to achieve and thrive in modern Britain.

🗳️ Democracy

We teach children that their voices matter through a carefully planned oracy curriculum. Through school councils, class votes, and pupil surveys, we encourage active participation and shared decision-making.

⚖️ Rule of Law

We help children understand the importance of rules. Our school rules are clear, consistent and created with pupil input. Be safe, be a learner and be respectful.

🕊️ Individual Liberty

We empower children to make choices in a safe and supportive environment. They learn to express themselves, take responsibility and understand their rights.

🤝 Mutual Respect

Respect is at the heart of our school. We model and teach kindness, empathy and the importance of listening to others.

🌍 Tolerance of those with Different Faiths and Beliefs

We celebrate diversity through our curriculum, assemblies and cultural events. Children learn about different religions, cultures and traditions, fostering understanding and inclusion.

At Middlestone Moor Primary Academy, we are committed to promoting the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all our pupils. We believe that SMSC is at the heart of a well-rounded education and is embedded throughout our curriculum, ethos and wider school life.

✨ Spiritual Development

We encourage children to explore beliefs, values and feelings through reflection, creativity and imagination. Pupils are given opportunities to develop a sense of awe and wonder, ask big questions and appreciate the world around them through RE, assemblies, learning outdoors and the arts.

⚖️ Moral Development

Our pupils learn to recognise right from wrong, understand the consequences of their actions and develop a strong sense of fairness and justice. We promote the importance of being safe, being a learner and being respectful in different situations through our behaviour policy, restorative practices and classroom discussions.

🤝 Social Development

We foster a strong sense of community and cooperation. Pupils are encouraged to work together, take on responsibilities and contribute positively to school life. Through group work, school council, peer mentoring and community projects, children learn to value teamwork and leadership.

🌍 Cultural Development

We celebrate diversity and promote understanding of different cultures, traditions and beliefs. Our curriculum includes a wide range of cultural experiences, from literature and music to festivals and global learning. We aim to prepare pupils for life in modern Britain and a global society.
