Summer Term Diary Dates

Daily Routine

We open our doors at 8.45am each morning, and close them at 8.55am ready to welcome the children into school to start their day.

Our mornings begin with the children joining in with a ‘Danny Go’ wake up, shake up routine. We then complete the register and choose our lunches. To prepare for our Sounds-Write phonics session, we carry out some fine and gross motor exercises using the ‘Letter Join’ programme. Once we are warmed up, we participate in our phonics session which begins our journey of learning how to read and write. Our children then disperse into the areas within our classrooms and outside, to access the continuous provision on offer. This provision is regularly enhanced to reflect pupil interests or other themes. This enhancement is carefully planned to meet the needs of the children in the setting. The adults play alongside our children, supporting their learning or lead focussed adult-initiated activities.

We believe that it is important that the children respect their environment so our pupils are expected to tidy the areas before our carpet time session. Once tidied, the children engage in a Literacy session before washing their hands and having their lunch. After eating, the children go out to play on the main yard with pupils from across the school. Each child has a Year 6 ‘Buddy’ to support them and wear a high visibility jacket so that our youngest children are easily identified.

Our afternoon sessions begin with registration and a short phonics recap. We then participate in our ‘Mastering Number’ Maths session. The children then access our indoor and outdoor provision again for the remainder of the afternoon. The day ends with a carpet time session which includes a short teaching input linked to the wider curriculum, finished with a story, rhymes and songs before heading home at 3.15pm.

Parental Engagement

We believe that links to home are so important and play a vital role in a child’s learning journey and encourage parents to become involved from the very start.

We use an app called SeeSaw which allows communication between home and school and allows parents to share in their child’s learning and development at school. From time to time, we may set challenges for your child to complete via SeeSaw.

We also send some learning to practise at home each week. This should be done in short bursts and with lots of praise and encouragement for the children’s efforts.

Sounds –The children bring home their home/school diary every Friday which includes the new sounds the children need to practise. They should practise saying the sounds in their book at least 3 times per week (ideally daily) to develop their ability to recognise them speedily. This really helps with their reading skills.

Sharing books – The children bring home a ‘sharing book’ of their choice every Friday. This is promote reading for pleasure. Your child is not expected to read this text, it is to be shared with an adult.

Decodable Reading Books –Children will bring their reading book and home/school diary home every Friday. These can stay at home all week, to be returned every Friday. Children are expected to read at least 3 times a week at home to support them in their reading progression (ideally daily). Their diary should be signed to show they have read with an adult. Children will read their new book with an adult in school before it is sent home on Fridays to ensure it is matched to their reading ability.

Letter Join – We use a programme called ‘Letter Join’ to support children’s fine and gross motor development including letter formation. The children can access this programme from home using the log in details below. Please practise forming the letters which are recorded in their home/school diary at least 3 time per week:
