Autumn Term Diary Dates

Home Learning

Home learning is sent home each week. The key areas and expectations of home learning are:

Reading Books – Children are expected to take their reading book and record home each night and return to school each day with this. Children are expected to read at least 3 times a week at home to support them in their reading progression. Their reading record should be signed to show they have read with an adult. Children will also read with an adult in school.

Your child’s reading book will match their reading ability and is always checked by staff to ensure a level of challenge is set.

Spellings – Children are expected to practise a set of spellings each week. These spellings are taken from the National Curriculum Spelling lists for Year 3, as well as from common misconception words. All spellings are taught in class before being sent home. Children should use each spelling within a sentence when practising to show they understand its meaning and can use it in context. Children should focus on practising the unhighlighted spellings at the back of their Home Learning books. These will be updated once a child has shown that they can spell the words consistently and accurately. Spelling assessments will take place each half term, and Home Learning books will be updated accordingly.

Maths Home Learning – Children are expected to complete a designated activity on Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS) every week. Class teachers set times tables that are challenging and are a target for each child – meaning that not every child will be set the same.
